While Barcelona is a well-known destination for a city break, did you know that the city is also a great place to work remotely? Besides its mild climate and location by the sea, Barcelona has many other advantages for those who want to work from there. Barcelona is a modern world-class city: you can find inspiration, discover new trends and do a lot of business. Barcelona also attracts many expats and digital nomads, so you won’t feel alone. An ideal place for a sunny workation. I was in this city myself in late 2021 and really enjoyed it. If anyone really knows the city well it is Marta Rubio. She was born and raised in Barcelona. She is an online marketer and you might know her from Barcelona with Marta. In this guest blog she has listed her tips so you know how to find the best places to work in the city.

Working from Barcelona

Barcelona is a great place for a city break, but also very suitable for workations. Then you will experience more what it is like to live in Barcelona. As a remote worker, you can decide where and when you get to work, which means you can work practically anywhere. From a cozy co-working space to a trendy coffee shop. For independent entrepreneurs and remote workers, there are numerous co-working spaces where you can rent a space or desk. Some are “members only,” while others offer monthly subscriptions.

There are also flex spaces that you can use on a day-by-day basis, which is very convenient if you don’t want to be tied down to anything.

The advantage of such a co-working space is that you can meet many new people and like-minded people there. There you can join all kinds of workshops and events if you like. You can also visit the library, where you can concentrate on your work in peace and quiet. Besides professional workplaces, there are also many cafes in Barcelona from which you can work, while enjoying a nice cup of coffee. Here are some tips for great places to work!

1. Cal Tip

In the heart of Gràcia, one of the nicest and most inspiring neighborhoods in Barcelona, you will find Cal Tip. A pleasant co-working space that you can use on a daily or monthly basis. With well-equipped meeting rooms, ideal for meetings and business meetings, work desks, a terrace and a café. Cal Tip also offers support to (starting) entrepreneurs, by sharing all kinds of knowledge and tips with them during a coaching session, the workshops and events that are organized regularly.

2. Federal Cafe

If you prefer to work from a coffee shop, then Federal Café is a good option. Here, except during weekends, you can work comfortably behind your laptop while enjoying a nice cup of coffee with some goodies. Among other things, Federal Café is known for its delicious brunches, beautiful interior and laid-back atmosphere. No wonder this is a popular spot among flex workers! Good to know is that Federal Café has several branches is the city: in the Gothic Quarter Sant Antoni and Poblenou.

3. Coco Coffice

A cafe really made for flex workers and digital nomads is Coco Coffice. For only €15 per day you can already work here and use all their facilities, enjoy unlimited coffee, tea and snacks. Inside there is a very nice atmosphere and if you wish you can also order a delicious healthy bowl for lunch. It is located in Sant Antoni, in the Eixample district. Absolutely recommended for me.

4. WeWork

A flex workplace you may already be familiar with from Amsterdam is WeWork. This international company offers flex workspaces all over the world. In Barcelona, WeWork has several office spaces, both for independent entrepreneurs and digital nomads, as well as (small) companies and start-ups. You can rent a desk or meeting room there by the day or take out a subscription if you think you might want to go there more often. The modern and hip design of these office spaces, in addition to the international atmosphere that prevails, make it a fun and inspiring place to work.

5. Biblioteca de la Ciutadella

For those who need to concentrate on a task and do not want to be disturbed while working, working from the library is often a good alternative. Such is the case in the library at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. You are not allowed to make phone calls or order coffee there. You sit among the students and bright minds who are working here. One of my favorite libraries to work is the one at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in the Campus de la Ciutadella, which is located in an old water reservoir. A cool original place to work.
