Thessaloniki is a wonderful hotspot to live and work temporarily. I mean: what’s not to like? A lively city by the sea, the delicious Greek cuisine and enough great coworkers to make working remotely from this city a great experience. Alieke and I worked a couple of days from this lovely Greek city in the South of Europe and of course checked out some coworkings where we could do our work!
About Thessaloniki
Do you already know this lively city in northern Greece? Thessaloniki is the second largest city in the country after Athens. A lot of students live there which means there is a lot of life in the city. You will find many nice bars and clubs. In addition, it is known for its food culture, which is even on the Unesco list! We went to investigate if you can do good remote work in Thessaloniki. In June, Alieke and I went on a workation here together. During the day we were working and in the evening and weekends we went to explore the city and its surroundings. There is plenty to do both in the city itself and in the surrounding area, like going to the Agora Modiano foodhall in the center, going into nature at Mount Olympus or to the beautiful beaches of Chalkidiki. I4gPro coworking
Close to the University of Thessaloniki is Coworking I4gPro. During our working day there, we received a super friendly welcome and were shown around the different workplace options they have there. Of course, you have regular flex spaces where you can flip open your laptop; in a larger space so you can easily connect with other coworkers. Making a phone call that your colleagues don’t need to hear about for the day? No problem, there are also so-called phone booths where you can make that work phone call in peace. The canteen is small but equipped with everything you need during a day of remote work; a refrigerator to hold your lunch and, of course, a coffee machine! And what does it matter that the canteen is a bit smaller when you can also sit outside or walk to the boulevard within 12 minutes? Talking about the best lunch break? Finally: night owl or early bird; you can come here 24 hours a day, so you don’t have to stick to opening hours.
Coho coworking
Coho Coworking has two locations in Thessaloniki: the city and the coworking home. We visited the latter location and immediately felt at home. The coworking is small-scale and over several floors you will find workstations, both hot desks and fixed desks. If you are working from Thessaloniki for a shorter period of time or plan to stay longer: there is definitely a desk here that suits your work needs. Because the community is so small in size, you will quickly feel familiar in this coworking and you will easily get to know your coworkers. Of course, there is a canteen at your disposal as well as a roof terrace where you can soak up the lovely southern European sun. Need to stretch your legs? This coworking space is also within walking distance of the boulevard where you can take a nice walk during your break.
The Caravan coworking
Sometimes you come across a coworking that has such a unique look that you actually want to work there every day. The Caravan in Thessaloniki is such a coworking! The interior is wonderfully quirky and unique, lots of light invades the workspace, so it feels more like a quiet café than a coworking. You can unfold your laptop in different places here: at a large table, a loose desk or in the cozy sitting areas. By the way, The Caravan is also a B&B and on the other side of the street, this concept also has a little restaurant where you can eat a top brunch in addition to a delicious caffè freddo. You’ll find lots of delicious dishes and lots of veggie options. For that reason alone, this coworking is one we highly recommend.
Coffee shops to work in Thessaloniki
Work and coffee go together like, well, work and coffee. You often can’t have one without the other! So besides working in a coworking, it is always a good idea to settle down in a coffee shop for an hour or so to get some work done. For those who take coffee very seriously, The Blue Cup comes highly recommended. Don’t expect an ordinary cup of black here, although I’m sure you can get one, but be surprised by the creative cups of coffee they serve here. Another fine coffee bar is the Urban Café. This café has a vintage atmosphere and the coffee here does not disappoint, definitely recommended!
