Because of something with a c, I still had few vacation plans. So in March 2021 I went back to explore my own country during a workation. I love the beach, preferably in bikini, but fresh sea air always does a person good. Last minute I decided to go to Kijkduin for a week. I don’t have a specific preference for this place, but was simply looking for something affordable on the coast, and this is what it turned out to be.
Favorite place
My favorite place anywhere is always the beach. I had resolved to take a brisk walk on the beach at Kijkduin every day. At the moment almost everything was closed due to rising infections, so not much more I had to do anyway. Where I was hoping for a nice cup of coffee by the fireplace of a beach club, it became a coffee to go, but that didn’t spoil the fun.
In a winter sun with a view of some kite surfers I had nothing to complain about.
Well, except that I really should have brought a thicker coat because it was cold. Oh well, I was in the Netherlands.
Where I stayed
I had chosen Kijkduin because I always like it there in the summer too. It has a wide beach, nice beach bars and free parking. It was now off season so it was pretty much deserted, but I came for rest so that was fine. I had a small house at a vacation park, but that was disappointing. The park was outdated and without atmosphere, maybe also because of the silence. Next to us were 6 Polish construction workers, also not really atmosphere-enhancing.
But after a working day in the evening with a bag of chips and a bar of chocolate on the couch watching movies on my laptop was more than fine. A candle, nothing more to do.
The bucket list
This bucket list is quite a deception. I went for cozy coffee drinking by a fireplace, which already went awry. It rained for 2 days with rock-hard wind, which is not really nice with a beach walk. Then I decided to eat herring for the first time, but all the fish stalls were closed. Nevertheless (expensive word) I thought it was a wonderful week there by the dunes and the sea. I enjoyed little moments of happiness and went home with a lot less stress than going there.
Here on the coast
It’s definitely not my last workation on the coast. I often see those cute little beach houses right on the beach passing by, that seems really great to do once. When you wake up in the morning you can see the sea right away, that seems great. I’m going to start saving, because it’s not cheap. Curious about more destinations in your own country?
