What do a workation and employer branding have to do with each other? That a workation is more than just a fun team outing most people have figured out, but how to use a company workation as employer branding is not clear to everyone. That’s why we like to explain it in this blog. Take advantage of it.
What does a workation look like?
Before we can tell you what a workation will bring to your business, it is important to first have a good idea of a workation. That it is a combination of work and vacation we hopefully don’t have to explain, but the general picture of a workation varies quite a bit. One person goes to Spain for a week, another goes to Bali for a few months. There are different forms to remote work. If you go with your whole company, you can also choose how you want to do it. From a midweek in the Netherlands to a month in Curaçao. Both a person going on workation alone and working remote with your whole company has an impact on your employer branding.
From workations, images are undoubtedly spread on social media, and that is exactly what contributes to your company’s brand perception.
Your company’s remote work policy
Prior to any workation, a conversation about the options goes with your employer. Whether you work at an SME or a large corporate, more and more companies have put their remote work policies on paper. Not surprisingly, too, there are prerequisites. To obtain a lot of freedom and flexibility, certain rules apply. This keeps it workable for everyone. As a company, make sure you make it clear to your staff what is and what is not possible and, as an employee, make sure you are aware of these rules.
Personally, I would also always offer the space for a personal interview, if for some reason wishes to deviate from the established rules. In this tight labor market, as an employer you cannot afford to close the door immediately. Before you know it, they are knocking on the door of a competitor who does have the freedom to work remotely.
What is employer branding?
Employer branding is the way a company presents itself as an employer and how it differentiates itself from other employers. It is about a company’s reputation as an employer and how it positions itself in the job market. It is important for a company to be attractive to potential employees because it helps attract and retain talent.
How a workation contributes to employer branding
People’s perception of your company is largely shaped by your people. A workation can contribute to a company’s employer branding in several ways. We would like to list them:
- It offers flexibility and autonomy
A work station allows employees to work flexibly and gives them more autonomy. They can decide when to work and when to take time off to relax and enjoy the new environment. There is more freedom in determining your workplace. This leads to higher employee satisfaction.
- It shows commitment to employees
A workation shows that a company is committed to its employees and their well-being. Saying that work happiness is priority No. 1 is one thing, making it happen is another. It offers employees the opportunity to relax and enjoy a different environment while still remaining productive. This can lead to increased loyalty and higher levels of commitment to the company.
- It reinforces the corporate culture
A workation can help strengthen company culture. By working together in a new location and doing fun joint activities outside of work hours, employees can get to know each other better and improve mutual cooperation. You experience a unique work adventure together. This contributes to a positive work atmosphere and team building.
- Attracting potential employees
A workation makes your company more attractive to potential employees. It shows that the company is open to new ways of working and that it values employee development and well-being. It is a way of working that suits 2023 and the way we want to continue working in the future. This can help attract talent and retain existing employees.
So a workation can contribute significantly to a company’s employer branding. It offers employees more flexibility and autonomy, shows commitment to employees and strengthens team building. It makes you a fine employer for your current team and it makes your company more attractive to potential employees.
