Funnily enough, I had not been to Athens before, so I was very much looking forward to going on workstation here. Anyway, I think Greece is a beautiful country, so in June the time had come and together with Daniëlle I went remote working from metropolis Athens. The city known for its rich history, delicious food and friendly Greeks.
More about historic city of Athens
Located in the south of Greece, it has a population of nearly 700,000 in the city, around that you get over 3 million. As such, it is the economic heart of the country. Like the Greek islands, it is a popular place for tourists from all over the world. I must say that I encountered very few Dutch people, which I personally always like.
What to do in the capital?
A workation is a combination of work and vacation, so during the day we were working and in the evening or on the weekend we were playing the tourist. We spent 5 days in Athens, which was very nice, but I could have stayed another week. There is so much to do in the city and the surrounding area. We went to the Acropolis of course, lots of delicious restaurants and visited a couple of islands near the capital. Want to know more about what there is to do? Then read tips for to do’s in Athens.
Nice workplaces in Athens
When I work from a different place I always like to work in different places. If I really need to concentrate I choose a coworking space or stay in my own accommodation. But sometimes it is also nice to be among other digital nomads or working locals or to be part of a community. And ordering nice coffee or having a delicious lunch is also not a punishment if you are in a nice cafe.
We went to work at 5 different places and are happy to share our tips: – Stone Soup coworkspace
This workspace is located on the outskirts of the city and is run by enthusiastic entrepreneurial Greeks. It houses workspaces and many small businesses. They value their community and organize activities and encourage the exchange of knowledge. The rooftop terrace, with shade cloth, is also a nice place to work. With a view of Acropolis. There is a suitable rate for all tastes, even if you want to work there for one day. – Impact Hub Athens coworkspace
Right in the center in a web of cute little streets you will find Impact Hub Athens. You will be welcomed with open arms and can choose a nice workspace. There are also several small and large meeting rooms. It’s nice and quiet to work there, between digital nomads and Greeks. Per day you pay € 15. – Selina Athens
If you are looking for a nice coliving in Athens then this is the place to be. Not only can you work nicely in the workspace here, but also stay overnight. They have private rooms and dormitories. You also have a shared kitchen, cinema, restaurant and a great roof terrace. That roof terrace has a great view of the city and The Acropolis, where you can first work in the shade and then enjoy a drink.
– Anana Coffee | Food
Downtown you will find Anana, where you can have a nice lunch and get some work done in the meantime. Both inside and outside you can sit very nicely. I ate delicious toast with eggs and feta there and drank delicious coffee. As a vegan or vegetarian, this is the place to be. – Minu
In the charming neighborhood of Psirri you will find the urban jungle Minu. You can drink delicious organic coffee and have a good lunch there as well. It is a combination of café, store, plants and work. There are small corners everywhere where you can sit quietly. And if you like the chair you’re sitting on, you can buy it.
Going to Athens as a digital nomad
Whether you want to get away for a few days as a city trip or a long time as a digital nomad, Athens is the perfect place. Maybe the summer months are not ideal as it is very hot then. But I would love to go back again around October or May. I am far from finished in this beautiful city. There is a nice atmosphere, the Greeks are very friendly, you can eat delicious and affordable food and there are plenty of great places to work. Would you like to take your team to Athens?
