We sketch you a situation:
In the morning, you take the children to school in the sunshine and when you come back, you stop by the local Spanish bakery for some delicious fresh bread to accompany your lunch. The lady behind the counter already recognizes you and you can start a careful conversation with her in Spanish. With the children, learning the language goes faster, because of their Spanish friends they have met at school. When you get home, it’s time to open the laptop and get to work. Your Dutch work, that is, which you can simply work on from Spain, where you now live for a while. What a wealth to live here for a while as a Dutch family, it is already an unforgettable experience! And then to think that you are going to live here for a few more months.
Living like a Spaniard
The situation we outline is fictional, but it could just be the reality for you and your family! Because working and living abroad is certainly not only for singles or couples without children. Even with children you can work abroad for short or long periods of time.
Indeed, in Spain a project has been created specifically to attract international families to the beautiful interior of Valencia: the Rural Life Project. We visited this project that guides Dutch families from A to Z in their (temporary) move to the Spanish countryside. What they can do for you and the amazing places we visited you can read in this blog!
How the Rural Life Project works.
Anyone who has ever thought about moving to Spain has also had this thought at some point: “Where on earth do I start to arrange things and how do I find my way to the various institutions? And that is exactly what the people of the Rural Life Project will help you with. Because of their large network in this region they can help you with everything, or at least refer you to the right people. For example, they have contacts with real estate agents in the region and will find a perfect rental home for your family. They know the local schools for the children. Here your children can get a few months of education. At least you don’t have to find that out for yourself! They can also help you find a teacher who can help you learn the Spanish language. You can immediately put these exercises into practice in the village where you live, by speaking Spanish to your neighbors, in the supermarket or wherever you go. You will find that this will also help you master it much faster.
About Valencia region: Tierra Bobal
The area participating in this project is located about an hour’s drive from Valencia and is called Tierra Bobal. Here you can still find authentic Spain, without masses of tourists but full of atmospheric squares where aubuelos and aubuelas spend whole days chatting. The 7 villages you can move to are small but cozy. You will find the amenities you need. Many families deliberately choose this area to really enjoy the outdoors. For which Spain has the perfect temperature.
Within no time you are in the beautiful nature that the area has to offer. Here you still have real space to actively enjoy with your family. Do you miss the city? Then drive within an hour to Valencia for a day in the hustle and bustle or the beautiful beach. The green interior of Spain is the perfect place for beautiful walks, rock climbing, canoeing or mountain biking. Rural Life has many connections for this as well.
Unique experience for the whole family
No matter who you ask; young, old, male or female: the best gift you can receive or give to someone is an experience. After all, an experience makes everyone richer! And how nice is it when you can have an experience like living in Spain as a family? Where you have some quality time with your family. By the way, the project is not for people who want to emigrate permanently, but rather for families who want to go on an unforgettable digital nomad adventure for a few months! This can vary between 3 months to about a year. You can think of it as trial living in Spain.
Orienting to life as ditigal nomad family
During our visit in this region, we came into contact with a family from Berlin who came to see if they wanted to come and live here for six months. The father is German, mother Brazilian. For the father, this was the perfect time to really improve his Spanish. The family missed breathing room in the busy city, and would like to enjoy outdoor activities, peace and quiet and space with their son. After they pick up their son from school, they want to go hiking in nature and enjoy life at a leisurely pace, as the Spaniards do. After 3 days of orientation they decided to go for it and in September their digital nomad adventure will start, very cool!
In any case, we are fans of this project. Peace, nature, outdoor life, remote work and living this unique adventure as a family is great. Curious and want to know more about what you can see and experience in the countryside of Valencia? We wrote a separate blog about it which you can read via this link. You can read more information about the project on the site of the Rural Life Project.
