In October 2020, I really needed a change of scenery. Due to the corona measures I was home alone a lot and seriously needed to get away. I couldn’t go away for very long because of an upcoming event I was organizing for work. A good time to explore the Netherlands, on the Veluwe some more and stay close to home.
I decided to go to the Veluwe with a friend for a week. Both working remotely.
Favorite place
I always get very happy with beautiful nature. I really need that peace and quiet from time to time. The Netherlands has a lot to offer in that area, both forests and beaches. I have been to the Veluwe for 1 or 2 days, but not for longer than that. It is a beautiful nature reserve in the middle of the country and is a nice combination of forests and dunes. And from my home in Utrecht I can get there in no time.
Where I stayed
We had booked a simple chalet in a vacation park to keep it a bit affordable. We had also done our own shopping in advance, nice and low budget. We stayed at Droompark de Hooge Veluwe, no spon ;). You have those beautiful tiny houses there, but you pay the high price and I did not feel like it.
From the park you can walk straight into the Hoge Veluwe National Park. It was a very busy work week that week so getting some fresh air in the woods after work was super nice. The bucket list
We came for rest and a change of scenery, so we didn’t do much. But of course we did go hiking and biking. The Veluwe has wildlife, so I had high hopes of seeing a deer or wild boar. But then you either have to be there at sunrise or late in the day and that was not going to happen. Early is never an option for me and I found the dark a bit creepy. So unfortunately. But we cycled quite a bit through the woods and the dunes and that was lovely. Back at our chalet we deserved the hot chocolate with whipped cream.
See you soon
Refreshed and recharged, we returned home after a week. Determined that I really was going to do this more often. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to get away from it all. Especially if you go with someone who can also work remotely. And the Netherlands has so much beauty to offer!
