What is a remote job?

A remote job is a job where you work (partially or completely) remotely, without having to go to a physical office every day. It is online work from a computer. Instead of a fixed workplace at an employer or client, you work from a location of your choice: at home, in a coworking space or even from abroad.

Remote work comes in different forms. Some companies offer fully remote functions, where you never have to come to the office. Other organizations choose a hybrid model, where, for example, you are present in the office one or two days a week and work remotely the rest of the time. What all these forms have in common is that they give you as a professional more control over your workday, work location and work style.

How many days a week can you work remotely?

How many days a week you can work remotely depends on the employer/client as well as the position. On Working Remotely you will find vacancies with a variety of work forms:

• Full remote: you work 100% remotely. These positions are ideal for digital nomads or people who want to work from abroad.
• Hybrid remote: In a hybrid job, you work partly from home and partly in the office, for example, 2 days a week on location.
• Flexible remote: you have the freedom to largely arrange your working hours and location yourself, within certain company frameworks.

Discuss with the employer or client what type of remote work is applicable so you know exactly what to expect. That way, you can search specifically for a job that fits your desired work style and travel plans.

What are good remote jobs?

Not every job is suitable to be performed entirely remotely. Nevertheless, the supply of remote jobs around the world has grown significantly in recent years. Knowledge workers in particular benefit from this shift; they can perform all or most of their work on their laptops and are therefore flexible in determining where they work. Here are some popular remote jobs:

• Online marketer – From content marketing, social media manager to SEO and advertising, these functions are excellent remote.
• Software Developer – Programmers can work anywhere in the world as long as they have access to the Internet and their tools.
• Virtual assistant (VA). – As a VA, you support businesses or entrepreneurs online with administration, scheduling, customer support and social media.

Within communications, HR, finance, recruitment, e-commerce and consulting, we are also seeing more and more remote positions. Companies are realizing that in this way they are not only attracting talent from their own country, but also motivated employees from abroad who like to work independently and flexibly. Making money as an online entrepreneur

You can sell digital products, such as e-books, courses or templates, generating scalable income. Offering services such as consulting, coaching or freelance work also remains popular. In addition, affiliate marketing allows you to earn commissions by promoting other people’s products or services. Having your own online store offers opportunities to sell physical products. How do I get a remote job?

Finding a remote job requires a slightly different approach than a traditional office job. Fortunately, more and more companies are working remote-first or remote-friendly. Below we share some practical tips for finding that great job:

1. Search the right places
Use platforms that focus specifically on remote work. On this page we collect a selection of remote jobs from Dutch companies open to flexible working, including from abroad.

2. Optimize your resume and LinkedIn profile
Show in your resume and online profile that you can work independently, are digitally proficient and have experience with tools such as Zoom, Asana, Slack or Notion. 3. Be proactive
Many companies have not yet classified all of their job postings as “remote. Dare to ask if remote working is possible, even if it is not explicitly stated in the job posting. If you are well motivated and show that you are productive remotely, often more is possible than you think.
