The laptop got to travel with me again, this time to a part of Spain I haven’t been to before. In Spain you not only have a beautiful coastline, but also the inlands are insane. With beautiful nature, high mountains and lots of greenery. I went on a work trip to the region of Girona. This is located in Catalonia, near the well-known Barcelona.
Escape for a while in Spanish nature
How nice it is to get out into nature. Away from the hustle and bustle, in search of tranquility. Sometimes during a workout I very deliberately choose a place with little stimuli, so I can really unwind. This was one of those places. Can Bora Lodges is located in the middle of the forest. About a half-hour drive from Girona city. That you are really in the middle of nature soon becomes clear to you. Indeed, in the evening you can hear wild boars, owls and deer wandering through the bushes all around you. Don’t worry, there’s a good fence between them. One evening it seemed like pumpa was literally walking next to my bed, that’s how loud I heard grunting. The real wilderness experience!
Staying in a safari tent
To complete the experience, I slept in a safari tent. That sounds hugely adventurous, but it’s basically glamping. Which suits me just fine! You have fine amenities in the lodge, such as a good bed, private bathroom, sitting area, dining area and kitchen. You can also choose a tent that does require you to walk to the bathroom building at night with your toilet roll under your arm, should you be a real camper.
Working outdoors
My visit to Can Bora Lodges was in mid-October, which was a good choice. This is because it is already a bit quieter at the park and in the area, but the weather is still lovely. I mainly wore my shorts, which was great! In the evening it cools off and you make a cup of tea and light the heater. During the day you could work in peace. Just check in advance with the Dutch owner Joost that the wifi works well and you’re good to go. In your tent you have a nice work table, but also at the restaurant you can sit comfortably, both inside and outside (in the shade). I actually always do meetings inside, so that I am disturbed as little as possible. But if possible, I can be found outside in the fresh air.
After your work day, you will go out
Of course, a workation is not just about work; free time is just as important. It is nice to close your laptop and do something fun. Within 5 minutes I have already forgotten that I worked that day and can easily let go of work. You can come here alone, with a friend, partner, colleague or with your whole company. There is a maximum capacity of about 30 people. At the park itself and in the surroundings there is more than enough to do. The city of Girona is also worth a visit. It is a beautiful city to walk through and everywhere you will find nice squares with tasty tapas restaurants.
Dive into the pool after your workday
Nothing like a refreshing dip in the pool after your workday during your workation. The best way to turn the switch from work to relaxation. Although in October a little sunshine is necessary, otherwise it’s a bit cold. Not a water rat? Then you can chill on the beds by the pool. Speaking of a bath, during my visit I had a very special experience! Namely, I took an ice bath. Under the safe guidance of a Wim Hof instructor. First you do meditation and breathing exercises and then the moment is there. After 40 seconds comes that magical moment people are always talking about, so that was my goal. So I was completely surprised that I was so relaxed that after 2 minutes I was signaled to get out. Funnily enough, I wasn’t even cold!
Activities in the area
In a wooded area, of course you have to go on an adventure. My colleague and I went mountain biking. This whole region is known for cycling, both cycling and mountain biking. The bikes were electric, which is really recommended. If you want action then you turn off the support, if you want to take it a little easier then you turn up the pedal support. You can choose your own route via Google like this scout did and get slightly lost as a result, but you can also just go safely with a guide. The scenery and mountains are really great to cycle through.
Vamos a la playa
An hour away you will find the beaches of the Costa Brava. You can choose a nice spacious beach near a nice village, but you can also find hidden small idyllic beaches. The route along the Catalan coast is truly beautiful. The famous Camino de Ronda runs along the Spanish coastline and is very nice to walk a bit on. Want a little more action? Then opt for a water sports activity such as surfing, kayaking or supping. Or pump up your adrenaline on a climbing trip over the cliffs along the coast. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do the latter due to a heavy rain, but it looked incredibly cool. Enthusiastic about Can Bora Lodges
Have you become enthusiastic about this nice place and would you also like to have a Spanish work station in the mountains? You can book your stay at Can Bora Lodges here. Send me or Joost (owner of Can Bora Lodges) a message. Also with your company you can have a great team outing here. We would love to help you organize your perfect workation. #collaboration
