Remote internship, that is quite unique and happens very rarely. Earlier this year, I received a very enthusiastic application from Ilham, who was going to live in Barcelona for six months and wanted to do a remote internship. Her profile and education was a good match with our internship vacancy and so she is now doing her graduation internship at Working Remotely. In this blog she shares her story. <\/p>\n

My graduate internship at Working Remotely began in February 2024, and the best part? It’s all happening from the amazing city of Barcelona. Let me introduce myself first. My name is Ilham Aboukaid, a 24-year-old Rotterdam native studying “Commercial Economics: Creative Marketing & Sales” at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. The opportunity to do my minor abroad presented itself during my studies, and of course I grabbed it with both hands! <\/p>\n

Studying in Paris for six months<\/h2>\n

From a young age it was a certainty for me that one day I would live abroad, only I did not yet know where and when that would be. For the past six months I have been attending the International Business Program minor in Paris. My choice for the city of Paris was motivated by the desire to move abroad without feeling like I was too far from home. Moreover, I really love Paris; its streets, architecture, cute boutiques and museums have captured my heart. Living abroad has contributed not only to my love for the city, but also to my personal development. Therefore, I would recommend everyone to make a similar decision at some point in their life, whether in a few months or a few years. <\/p>\n

Search for a remote internship in Spain<\/h2>\n

After living in Paris for six months, the thought occurred to me: why not continue with this crazy adventure? So, without hesitation, I began my search for businesses in sunny Spain. Although Paris holds a special place in my heart, I really longed for some more pleasant weather. Therefore, I made the leap to beautiful Barcelona<\/a>. <\/p>\n

On Tuesday, December 5, just one day before my departure, I booked a ticket to Barcelona. Never before had I so impulsively boarded a plane, but one thing is for sure: I did not regret it! I gave myself five days to get in touch with potential graduate companies and explore the city. Barcelona immediately exceeded my expectations; the warm people, weather and activities made me instantly fall in love. <\/p>\n

My interest in remote working<\/h2>\n

During my short trip to Barcelona, I got in touch with a digital nomad and she told me how she has been living and working remotely in Spain for several years. This rang a bell with me and I also started looking at remote companies looking for graduates. That’s how I ended up at Working Remotely. I was immediately enthusiastic! I myself was not very familiar with the term “workation” but after a few hours of scrolling through the website, I made the decision to send in my resume and cover letter. After a nice job interview and getting to know Alieke, I started the preparations. <\/p>\n

For my graduate studies, I will be working on a commercial issue. My goal at Working Remotely is to create value; I will not only research a challenge or problem, but also realize a concrete plan. Meanwhile, I will work with the company and create content for the website and social media. <\/p>\n

Remote working after graduation<\/h2>\n

This adventure not only gives me a chance to develop myself, but also to enjoy a completely new environment. Especially now that I have almost finished my studies and have to enter the ‘real world’. This way I can find out if remote working is my thing. Because the way it looks now… I will stay abroad for a while.<\/x>So, I always say: look beyond your nose and dare to take on a new challenge! Who knows what fat adventures await you. <\/p>\n
