Imagine: you’re sitting on a terrace in Valencia, laptop in front of you and you’re at work. Sounds like a dream, right? For some people, it’s reality. We like to share different workation stories. That way you’ll discover that there are many ways to work remotely. Whether it’s a short week or a longer period, everyone experiences a workation in their own way. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sandra, entrepreneur and group workation participant<\/b><\/h2>\n

Sandra is an entrepreneur and lives permanently in her minivan. With it she travels through Europe and works from the most insane places. She is a blogger and web designer. Working Remotely organized the first workation in Valencia in March 2022, where participants spent a week exploring the city and meeting new people. Sandra participated and experienced many benefits. She got inspiration from sparring with different professionals in the group and discovered the authentic character of Valencia thanks to Alieke’s knowledge. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sandra found a workation in Spain to be a valuable experience that has boosted her career and created priceless memories. She encourages others to participate in a group workation. <\/span><\/p>\n

Eros went on workstation with family for 2 months<\/b><\/h2>\n

Eros, mother of two kids and employed as a CDD Analyst at Rabobank. Together with her husband and their four-year-old twins, they spent no less than two months in Valencia<\/a>, combining work and vacation. The idea to work and adventure from abroad didn’t just happen; it had always been her dream to work abroad. <\/span><\/p>\n

After obtaining permission from her employer, they embarked on the adventure in Spain. They arranged a babysitter for their children in Valencia and enjoyed working in an inspiring environment where the sun shone every day. Although they sometimes missed the Netherlands, they appreciated the positive energy and quality time they were able to experience as a family abroad. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lars went to work remotely in Cape Town for 2 months<\/b><\/h2>\n

Lars, a freelancer in digital marketing, went on a workstation for 2 months in Cape Town, South Africa. He enjoyed the nice weather and the breathtaking nature. Cape Town is distinguished by its beautiful nature, minimal time differences with the Netherlands, good facilities for remote working and pleasant temperatures. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lars stayed in co-working spaces and emphasized that although there are sometimes electricity problems in South Africa, fortunately Cape Town is less affected by them than Johannesburg, for example, and there are many places with a generator for downtime. You can do various activities in Cape Town and the surrounding area, such as hiking, going to the beach, visiting markets and events. Lars also says to explore Cape Town’s beautiful surroundings, including wine regions and national parks. He found his experience in Cape Town to be a unique adventure and recommends everyone to go on a workation there. <\/span><\/p>\n

Marja, employed by Ohra and group workation participant<\/b><\/h2>\n

Marja works as a marketing communications at Ohra. In March, she participated in a Working Remotely group workshop in Valencia. Despite her age of 53, she immediately felt comfortable with the other participants. ”As long as you are open to your fellow travelers and don’t stay in your own bubble, it is a very inspiring way of working. And just to touch on age, for me it’s just the way to keep feeling young.” <\/span><\/p>\n

The week was filled with work, discoveries in Valencia, good food and sharing experiences. Marja enjoyed the positive energy of all the participants and returned home full of new energy and beautiful memories. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sam went to work remotely in Barcelona<\/b><\/h2>\n

Remote working is becoming increasingly popular and employers are capitalizing on it. Such is the case at test consulting company Salves, where employees have the opportunity to work from Barcelona for a month, at the employer’s expense. This not only offers a new reality, but also fulfills a strong need of many colleagues. In addition to work, they can enjoy the city and attend self-development trainings. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sam enjoyed working on himself when you are away from your own environment for a while. After all, you can work on your skills, which will then help you further in your work. This new way of working is both attractive for employees and for attracting new talent. Going on workation is an exciting experience and offers employees the opportunity to get away from home for a while and experience a new environment. <\/span><\/p>\n
