I went here on workstation in the first week of March. Just before the word with a c popped up all over the world. Normally I always like to go to the sun in winter, but I really wanted to go to Scandinavia for once. So thick winter coat on, gloves on, hat on, and off to Sweden! It was about 3 degrees, brrrrr, but a very nice place for a remote work adventure.

My favorite place in Stockholm

My favorite neighborhood in Stockholm is Gamla Stan. This is the old city center of Stockholm. Everywhere you will find beautiful buildings and cozy streets. There are also many nice places where you can have a drink or a good meal in a bistro. As a true Dutchman, I of course went out by bike, which is very doable in this city. The ideal way to discover a fairly large city I always find.

Staying overnight in Sweden

One reason I had not yet been to Sweden was mainly because I find it expensive. A beer on a terrace here is easily €6 (!). That makes a long vacation here quickly pricey, and thus ideal to go as a workation for a short week. I stayed at the Generator Hostel in the Norrmalm district, where I immediately ran into some other digital nomads. Actually, it’s a bit like a hotel. The lobby is very fancy and very spacious, full of great tables (and power outlets) to work at. Definitely a recommended place to stay if you go to Stockholm.

The 11 best to do’s in Stockholm

I had made a list of things I wanted to do here. I was there for 7 days, including 1 weekend and 1 more day off, the other days I had to work. At the top of that list was viewpoint Skinnarviksberget in Södermalm. A hill from which you have a beautiful view of the city, highly recommended!

The bike ride there was also top-notch, as the city is bursting with beautiful buildings. And of course the iconic colored buildings in the center had to be photographed. Of course, taking a boat trip is also great fun, because as you may know, there is a lot of water and islands here.

Gamla Stan: wander through the old town with its narrow streets, colorful facades and cozy cafes; ideal for a lunch break or evening stroll.

Södermalm: the creative district full of vintage stores, coffee bars and co-working cafes. The city combines design, atmosphere and innovation, perfect for remote working as well as enjoying your free time. Whether you want to wander through the historic streets of Gamla Stan between meetings or prefer to open your laptop in a stylish coworking space overlooking the water, in Stockholm you will find places that stimulate creativity. Below is a selection of the city’s finest workplaces.

Helio: stylish coworking spaces with a strong community and 24/7 access.

United Spaces: flexible day passes at multiple locations, ideal for short stays.

il Caffè: relaxed coffee bars with good coffee and laptop-friendly tables.

& Hotel Stockholm: combines comfortable lodging with a quiet lounge to work.

Scandic Hotels: hotel chain with modern coworking spaces and flexible day passes.

In short, Stockholm is definitely a fun city to go remote to work as a digital nomad sometime. Scandinavia is certainly not cheap and Sweden is no exception. There is more than enough to do and actually any season is suitable for a visit. Try to avoid the high season as it is even more expensive then.

3 other great cities for a workation

Spaanse vibes tijdens een workation in Valencia

20 tips voor remote werken in magisch Marrakech

8 fijne werkplekken voor digital nomads in Antigua, Guatemala

The land of knäckebröd and Swedish balls, at least that’s the first thing I…

[91,94

post-7360","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-destinations","category-within-europe
["GET
