The land of kn\u00e4ckebr\u00f6d and Swedish balls, at least that’s the first thing I think of when I think of Stockholm. I went here on workstation in the first week of March. Just before the word with a c popped up all over the world. Normally I always like to go to the sun in winter, but I really wanted to go to Scandinavia for once. So thick winter coat on, gloves on, hat on, and off to Sweden! It was about 3 degrees, brrrrr, but a very nice place for a remote work adventure. <\/p>\n

My favorite place in Stockholm<\/h2>\n

My favorite neighborhood in Stockholm is Gamla Stan. This is the old city center of Stockholm. Everywhere you will find beautiful buildings and cozy streets. There are also many nice places where you can have a drink or a good meal in a bistro. As a true Dutchman, I of course went out by bike, which is very doable in this city. The ideal way to discover a fairly large city I always find. <\/p>\n

Staying overnight in Sweden<\/h2>\n

One reason I had not yet been to Sweden was mainly because I find it expensive. A beer on a terrace here is easily \u20ac6 (!). That makes a long vacation here quickly pricey, and thus ideal to go as a workation for a short week. I stayed at the Generator Hostel<\/a> in the Norrmalm district, where I immediately ran into some other digital nomads. Actually, it’s a bit like a hotel. The lobby is very fancy and very spacious, full of great tables (and power outlets) to work at. Definitely a recommended place to stay if you go to Stockholm. <\/p>\n

The 11 best to do’s in Stockholm<\/h2>\n

I had made a list of things I wanted to do here. I was there for 7 days, including 1 weekend and 1 more day off, the other days I had to work. At the top of that list was viewpoint Skinnarviksberget in S\u00f6dermalm. A hill from which you have a beautiful view of the city, highly recommended! <\/p>\n

The bike ride there was also top-notch, as the city is bursting with beautiful buildings. And of course the iconic colored buildings in the center had to be photographed. Of course, taking a boat trip is also great fun, because as you may know, there is a lot of water and islands here. <\/p>\n

    Gamla Stan:<\/strong> wander through the old town with its narrow streets, colorful facades and cozy cafes; ideal for a lunch break or evening stroll.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    S\u00f6dermalm:<\/strong> the creative district full of vintage stores, coffee bars and co-working cafes. Perfect for working as well as meeting people. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Djurg\u00e5rden:<\/strong> a green island in the middle of the city where you can walk or bike among museums, forests and viewpoints.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Fotografiska:<\/strong> one of the best photography museums in Europe, with a rooftop caf\u00e9 overlooking the water.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Fika at a local caf\u00e9:<\/strong> take a Swedish coffee break with a cinnamon roll at places like Caf\u00e9 Pascal<\/em> or Kaffeverket<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Archipelago Tour:<\/strong> take a boat tour of the thousands of islands around Stockholm; a perfect weekend activity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    The Swedish balls: <\/strong>I had gotten the tip to go to Meatballs For The People (I didn’t come up with the name) for the best balls in town. I couldn’t wait to have a nice dinner there after my work day. Whether they were the best I don’t know, but tasty they certainly were. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
